Omer 17 - Fish Love

It’s the 17th day of counting the omer. Each day I post a little something to help me count. Yesterday I wrote about what Paul means when he says “love is patient.” Today, we talk about fish love. Smile

Abraham Twersky on “fish love”:

A young man was enjoying his dinner and says, “I love this fish!”

The rebbe responds, “Oh, you love the fish? Is that why you took it out of the water and boiled it? Don’t tell me you love the fish. You love yourself. And because the fish tastes good to you, you took it out of the water and boiled it.”

So much of what we call “love” today is fish love. A young couple falls in love; what does that mean? It often means a man finds a woman who can meet all his physical and emotional needs. And a woman finds a man who can meet all her needs. It’s not real love – each one is looking out for their own needs.”
