Cool New Feature: Upload Your Music to Chavah

Do you have some great music that the Messianic community needs to hear?

Yeah?

Then I have some great news for you: Chavah, the best darn Messianic radio on the web, now supports uploading your music.

Chavah streams out several thousand songs each week to Messiah’s disciples worldwide, so why not increase the community’s joy by uploading some great tunes for the Lord?

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to Chavah
  2. Click the “Upload your music to Chavah” link:
    UploadToChavah
  3. Select the song(s) you want to upload:
    SelectSongs
  4. There is no step 4! Your tunes will upload in the background.
    Uploading

Nice and easy, right? Upload your songs now, the Messianic community is waiting!

We’ve already got over 50 songs uploaded by the community, but we’d love to get more.

What can be uploaded, you ask?

  • Pretty much any audio format: mp3, ogg, aac, wma, wav. Preferably mp3.
  • Songs, prayers, chants, liturgy. Anything that would benefit Messiah’s disciples.
  • Messianic stuff, meaning stuff by Messiah’s disciples. I’m open to the possibility of Jewish and Christian tunes as well, but they might be problematic due to copyright issues.

Also, and this is important, please include both the artist and song name in the uploaded file. For example, if you’re uploading Shlomo Foobar’s new hit song “Sha’alu Shalom”, please make sure the file name includes these.

Good name:
Shlomo Foobar – Sha’alu Shalom.mp3

Best name:
Shlomo Foobar – Tunes For Messiah – 01 – Sha’alu Shalom.mp3

Bad name:
net.wav

Without this information, it’s less likely your tunes will get on Chavah. I need artist and song name. Seriously, someone uploaded a file called “net.wav” this morning. I have no idea who the artist is, and no idea what the song’s called. That doesn’t work, it won’t get on Chavah until I can get artist and song info.

Happy uploading! And thanks to you, the Messianic community, for making Chavah your choice for tunes for the Lord.

  3. Anon, I've had a few people say that.

Here's how to make it work:

    Go here, click install.

Then, go to Chavah. It should load just fine.

  5. No, sorry. The uploader is crap. Tried for an hour and a half. Locked my computer, had to reboot twice. Finally got one song to upload all completely. Won't try again.

  7. @Barry

I can think of two or three things that might be going on.

    (1) You need to hit Microsoft Update and update your dotnet and Silverlight packages. If you have not installed them, you can't just take the default to get them.

    (2) You're using a very old version of Windows. I've heard rumors that Windows 2000 and Windows XP before Service Pack 2 do not work with dotnet (which I presume could mean Silverlight not working also). I can't be sure, as I don't have computers that old anymore.

    (3) You're using a non-Windows operating system. There is a Silverlight package for Macs, but I don't know how well it works. For most Unix-like systems, there is something called Moonlight associated with the Mono project. On my old Linux system, Moonlight wouldn't do anything except peg the CPU.

The way you proceed is based on which of these (if any) fits your situation.

  8. I'm experimenting with file upload chunk sizes, so that may be part of the problem, too. I'll make some adjustments.

  9. Barry,

I've found and fixed a bug in the uploader that could cause some of the problems you described.

Please, give it another shot and let me know how it works for you.

  10. Hello Judah, I really want to share my music with you. Have tried uploading several versions of Silverlight. Have changed the kbps's as low as 96 and still, the song won't upload. Is there another way to get my music to you? How about if I email you? I have 4 songs to share with you. Devora Clark

  12. I busted the upload service due to a change in preparation for Chavah v2. Sorry about that.

    The uploading works again.

If for any reason you can't upload, please email your tunes to judahgabriel@gmail.com, I'll take it from there. Thanks!
